UNIVERSITY POLICY | Student Employment Policies (SSM301-01 to SSM307-01) are the University's official policies regarding Student Employment. As an employer you must be familiar with these policies in order to comply with University, state and federal regulations.
Any staff or faculty who supervise or hire employees are required to complete the ASU Recruitment Certification Training – Two Year Certification. This course is open to all who are involved in the recruitment process whether they have hiring access or not, and is especially helpful for those that conduct interviews and make hiring decisions. This is a two-year certification and only needs to be renewed when it expires.

<aside> ‼️ CONSIDER: Incoming students have to be enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester in order to work during Summer session. They do not need to be enrolled for Summer. If the student is an incoming Freshman they are not eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) funding.

NOTICE: Effective Spring 2025, all ASU employees (including GSAs and TAs) are required to complete a background check BEFORE starting work.
Student workers are not required to complete a background check unless the work performed under the position requires one.
The cost of the background check starts at $54.80 and will be charged to the hiring department/account. Please budget accordingly.
