UNIVERSITY POLICY | ACD510-01: Notification of Consulting or Other Outside Business Activities or Arrangements for Faculty and Academic Professionals.
ACD 510-01 describes the conditions under which faculty may conduct consulting and business activities outside ASU, outlines the documentation and approvals necessary, and indicates the role of the department chair/director and dean in reviewing those. Please review the entire policy. **Please note that the policy requires prior written notification to the department chair/director and dean before outside business activities commence. **** Specifically exempted are consulting associated with university service activities, such as reviewing book manuscripts, serving as an external reviewer for another university, and similar activities.
By submitting the form in MyDisclosures, the faculty member or academic professional is attesting that all consulting or other outside business activities will be conducted in compliance with ACD 510-01, including submitting this form prior to beginning work, and that time spent on these activities will not exceed 312 hours per academic year or 384 hours per fiscal year. For ongoing or continuing arrangements, this form must be submitted annually. Failure to submit this form or submitting false information on this form may result in disciplinary action. NOTE: Deans are authorized to establish a more stringent policy that requires faculty, academic professionals, or administrators in their units to obtain written permission before filing this notification.
Most importantly, please note that participating in outside business activities is not an automatic right that faculty members and academic professionals have, and that any such activity must not interfere with their duties to ASU. Outside activities may be permissible if a faculty member or academic professional meets the requirements of the policy and any rules or policies you have established in your college/school/institute.
