You must submit syllabi for all courses that you are teaching and for which you will be evaluated.

Step 1 - Upload your course syllabi to the MDT Syllabi Dropbox.

• We kindly ask that you utilize the following naming convention when uploading your syllabi: “Last Name_MDT 111”

Step 2 - Upload your course syllabi to My ASU.

• In My ASU, select the syllabus button in the “My Classes” box and follow the directions provided. When done correctly, the syllabus button turns blue. Please keep in mind that syllabi uploaded to My ASU are public facing.

Step 3 - Upload your course syllabi to Canvas.

If your course has a corresponding Canvas module, please be sure it is uploaded there as well.

Syllabus Requirements

UNIVERSITY POLICY | **ACD304-10: Course Syllabus.** All syllabi should meet the minimum requirements as spelled out in the Academic Affairs Manual.

Provost Guidelines

• Syllabi that combined two or more levels/sections or a class (a 400-level and 500-level) MUST include different requirements for the graduate section showing more work. This is the same for people that combine their 111, 121, 127, 311, 321, 327, 511, 521, 527 and 727 syllabi into one. There MUST be different requirements for the different levels of the course in the syllabus and not a reference to check Canvas.

  • A combined UG/G MHL course must list the additional requirements for graduate students in the course. What are the specific requirements for each level of student in the course.
  • An MUP 111, 127, 311, 327, 511, 527, 727 needs to specifically list the requirements for each level:
    • “111 students must learn XX number of etudes, XX number of pieces, XX number of memorized works”
    • “127 students must…” etc.
    • If you decide to separate out each syllabus, be sure that you still have specific requirements for each level that are different from the other levels (you can’t just separate them with identical information).

• If your course meets a general studies gold or maroon requirement, we are required to list the ASU General Studies learning outcomes AND show how the learning outcomes in the course align with the general studies outcome. Here is an example:

  • Student Learning Outcomes

    At the completion of this course, students will be able to…

    1. Recognize a variety of relevant terms, genres, movements, composers, pieces, and musicians.
    2. Reflect critically on music, writings about music, and the “Western canon.”
    3. Develop skills related to listening, research, critical thinking, and writing to communicate effectively about music and music history in a variety of mediums.
    4. Evaluate the relevancy music of the past has in the world today.

  • General Studies Gold Syllabus Statement This course fulfills the ASU Humanities, Arts and Design General Studies requirement. Students completing a Humanities, Arts and Design course will be able to:

    1. Analyze cultural creations or practices in historical or contemporary context. (student learning outcome 1)
    2. Interpret the formal, aesthetic, and creative elements in literary, visual, or cultural texts. (Student learning outcomes 2, 3)
    3. Articulate relationships among tradition, innovation, individual creativity, and communal expression in cultural creations or practices. (Student learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4)
    4. Communicate narratives, ideas, or arguments using such elements as evidence, creativity, and critical thinking. (Student learning outcomes 3, 4)
